By Quran & Honey: How Imam Restored Lost Voice (Miracle!)
This narrative experience begins in the heart of Casablanca, Morocco, where the nights of the holy month of Ramadan pulsed with an exceptional spiritual atmosphere. The protagonist of this journey is a mosque Imam whom Allah had blessed with a melodious voice for reciting the verses of the Quran. His recitations would move hearts, drawing crowds of worshippers who lined up behind him every night for the Taraweeh (voluntary night prayers), seeking the profound tranquility that his voice spread throughout the space.
Story Summary:
Sheikh Abdelkabir Al-Hadidi, a prominent Moroccan Imam, experienced a miraculous recovery from permanent Bilateral Vocal Fold Paralysis caused by a surgical complication. When human medicine declared his condition incurable with a zero percent chance of speaking again, he relied entirely on his absolute faith in Allah. By reviving a prophetic remedy through a secret nightly routine of consuming pure honey and reciting specific Quranic verses, his voice was astonishingly fully restored. This true story provides a direct testament to the ultimate healing power of the Quran when medical science reaches its limits, inviting readers to discover the profound details of his spiritual journey.
A Harsh Trial: The Diagnosis of Laryngeal Cancer
However, at the peak of this deep spiritual connection between the Imam and his Mihrab (the prayer niche), fate brought a harsh trial; he was diagnosed with a malignant disease—cancer—in his larynx.
Surgical intervention was his only option. Miraculously, the surgeon assigned to his case was a regular attendee of the mosque who prayed behind the Imam. The doctor held such deep respect and pure love for him that he insisted on performing the surgery entirely free of charge.
The Devastating Medical Complication
The surgeon was extremely careful to save the Imam's vocal cords, and indeed, the operation successfully eradicated the tumor. However, the unexpected happened: the delicate nerves responsible for moving the vocal cords were damaged during the surgery.
This resulted in the vocal cords separating and completely losing their function, a condition known medically as Bilateral Vocal Fold Paralysis, specifically remaining in a relaxed, Open Position.
(To clearly illustrate the exact medical condition of the patient, please see the medical diagram below, which shows the difference between the normal state and bilateral paralysis):
Following this medical complication, the Imam lost his voice entirely, to the point that there was not even a 1% chance of him ever speaking again. The surgeon suffered a severe psychological shock and isolated himself at home for a long time, heavily affected by the stress and the reprimands from his fellow specialists for undertaking such a complex surgery alone. As for the patient—the Imam—he viewed this as a blessing that Allah had bestowed upon him and then taken back, firmly believing that to Allah belongs what He takes, and to Him belongs what He gives.
A Year of Silence and the Medical Verdict
The Imam remained in this condition for about a year, after ENT specialists conclusively confirmed that he would never speak again. They proposed one final solution: traveling to France to have a small piece of fat implanted into each vocal cord muscle. They hoped this might allow him to produce a faint whisper, as his voice had been reduced to mere breath (a voiceless hhhh sound). However, he firmly refused the proposal.
The Spiritual Turning Point: Absolute Reliance on the Creator
At that moment, after a full year of absolute silence, the Imam realized that all earthly doors were completely closed. What tore at his heart the most was not just the loss of speech, but his overwhelming longing for the Mihrab. Standing in the mosque and watching a young man lead the worshippers in his place, his eyes would overflow with tears—not out of objection to God's will, but out of pure yearning and nostalgia.
It was then that his reliance on creation ceased entirely, and he connected completely with the Creator. The Imam realized that what a servant truly needs when turning to his Lord is a state of absolute need and utter desperation (Al-Idtirar). How beautiful is the supplication of the desperate, as Allah described it: "Is He [not best] who responds to the desperate one when he calls upon Him and removes evil..." (Surah An-Naml, Verse 62).
The Secret Ritual: A Miraculous Cure with Quran and Honey
In the depths of this certainty, the Imam recalled a profound Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him): "You should take the two cures: honey and the Quran" (Narrated by Ibn Majah). Pondering this, he said to himself, "Glory be to Allah! This is a cure I have overlooked. I have honey, and the Quran is preserved in my heart, but how do I use them together?"
His mother had moved in to live with him and support him through his ordeal. Every night, while she slept in the adjacent room—silently watching her son as if she were asleep—the Imam would rise for Qiyam al-Layl (the voluntary night prayer). He would bow, prostrate, and recite the Quran silently in his heart.
He devised a secret healing ritual for himself. He would place a little honey in his throat, gargling with it, and then silently recite, with a heart overflowing with absolute faith, Quranic verses that speak of resurrecting bodies and breathing life into them. Directing these verses to the site of his ailment, he focused on the following:
- "...He says, 'Who will give life to bones while they are disintegrated?' Say, 'He will give them life who produced them the first time; and He is, of all creation, Knowing.'" (Surah Ya-Sin, Verses 78-79).
- "Yes. [We are] Able [even] to proportion his fingertips." (Surah Al-Qiyamah, Verse 4).
- "...And look at the bones, how We bring them together and then cover them with flesh..." (Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse 259).
The Moment of the Miracle: A Voice Restored
He persisted in this practice. Just a few days after beginning this secret treatment, in the depths of the night, he stood up to pray as usual. He raised his hands, and the moment he initiated the prayer with the Takbir, by the One besides whom there is no deity, a clear and audible voice pierced the silence of the night, proclaiming: "Allahu Akbar" (God is the Greatest).
His mother sprang from her room and rushed to him, tears streaming from her eyes, repeating in utter disbelief: "He spoke... He spoke!" She eagerly asked him what medicine he had used. With a peaceful heart, he replied, "I did not use any medicine. It is Allah who made me speak... He is the One who granted speech to this throat that medicine meant to silence."
From that moment on, the Imam made a firm decision never to visit a doctor to check his throat, despite the intense insistence of medical professionals. He swore never to do so until the day he meets Allah. His reasoning and faith were unshakable: man is like a machine; if something breaks down, no one can truly fix it except its Maker, and our Maker is Allah, the Ultimate Healer, Exalted be He.
Conclusion: A Testament to Divine Healing
This real-life experience—which took place over 12 years ago, and whose protagonist, Sheikh Abdelkabir Al-Hadidi, is still alive today—stands as a testament to the greatness of absolute faith. The Sheikh swore by Allah, who raised the heavens without pillars, that he wished to keep this story a secret between him and his Lord. Were it not for Allah's will that it be shared so people could learn from it, he would never have found any pleasure in recounting it to anyone.
It is an open invitation and a sign that its author hopes every reader will grasp, realizing how neglectful we often are of the healing power of the Quran and having absolute faith in it. The word of Allah is the perfect cure for bodies, diseases, souls, and all afflictions. Embracing this magnificent Book enables a person to let go of everything that disturbs their peace of mind, fully trusting in the Almighty's words: "We have not neglected in the Register a thing." (Surah Al-An'am, Verse 38).
I conclude—I am Achraf Lamine, the author of this story—by echoing the words of Allah the Almighty in His precise revelation: "Indeed, this is a reminder, so he who wills may take to his Lord a way." (Surah Al-Insan, Verse 29).
