True Faith in Islam: Weigh Your Heart & Avoid Fake Piety
All praise is due to Allah, who made His Book a guide, a healing, a light, and a radiance for the believers. Eternal praise and gratitude belong to Him alone. We bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Him, the Lord of the worlds, and we bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger. May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, his rightly guided family, his companions, and all those who follow their path until the Day of Judgment.

When Allah the Almighty speaks of the true nature of His righteous believers, He establishes the state of the heart and the faith anchored within it as the absolute foundation and primary axis. Whenever the Quran describes the people of faith, it begins by portraying the condition of their hearts. Allah says: "And the servants of the Most Merciful are those who walk upon the earth in humility..." (Surah Al-Furqan: 63). He also says: "Successful indeed are the believers: those who offer their prayers with deep reverence and spiritual submissiveness (Khushu')." (Surah Al-Mu'minun: 1-2). And He says: "The true believers are only those whose hearts tremble with awe (Wajal) whenever Allah is mentioned..." (Surah Al-Anfal: 2). From this, we realize that a believer’s true essence begins with the state of their heart; it is the core of the religion, its essence, and the foundation upon which all other deeds are built.
The Quranic Balance for Testing True Faith in the Heart
If a Muslim truly wants to discover their reality, they should not look for it in their outward appearance or in the praise of others. Instead, they must weigh their heart using this precise Quranic scale. Ask yourself: When you stand for prayer, do you experience deep reverence (Khushu')? This is not merely physical stillness; it is an emotional and spiritual state and a direct fruit of true faith that only blooms in a tender heart deeply connected to its Creator. Furthermore, when Allah is mentioned in your presence, does your heart feel a profound awe (Wajal)? This awe is a unique blend of deep fear, hope, and immense veneration for Allah the Almighty.
If you find these feelings within your heart, you are upon goodness, reaping the spiritual fruits of faith. However, if the Lord of the worlds is mentioned and you feel an icy coldness in your chest, or if you feel absolutely nothing—or worse, a sense of hardness, aversion, and tightness—then reflect upon Allah's words: "And when Allah is mentioned alone, the hearts of those who do not believe in the Hereafter shrink with aversion, but when those [worshipped] other than Him are mentioned, immediately they rejoice." (Surah Az-Zumar: 45). This is the ultimate standard. Hearts do not lie. Rarely does a state reside in the heart without its effects manifesting on the limbs and dominating a person’s condition. The body is the kingdom of the heart; its righteousness flows through the entire body, and so does its corruption. A true believer is one who, upon hearing Allah’s name, is struck by awe and spiritual modesty, magnifying the sanctity of their Lord and demanding due reverence for Him, in accordance with His words: "What is the matter with you that you do not attribute to Allah His due majesty and reverence, while He has created you in stages?" (Surah Nuh: 13-14).
The Hardness of Hearts and Delving into the Unseen
Observing people’s gatherings today reveals a severe crisis regarding this spiritual balance. Allah’s name is mentioned, and His Book is recited, yet people continue to converse carelessly, entirely unmoved. This apathy is undeniable proof of a severe disconnect between the heart and its Creator, and a failure to truly sense His presence.
Exacerbating this spiritual crisis, when Allah is mentioned, some people dare to argue about His divine essence without an ounce of modesty or awe. You may find someone sitting among the general public and the foolish, carelessly debating the allegorical and ambiguous matters of faith (Al-Mutashabihat), such as delving into the nature of His establishment upon the Throne, the "Hand" of Allah, or the "Face" of Allah. Such behavior stems from sheer foolishness and a profound lack of religious understanding. If this debater truly valued Allah or held any reverence for Him in their heart, they would never dare to raise such complex theological issues that the masses have no need for. The Prophet ﷺ taught the religion to all walks of life—children, the elderly, and the Bedouins. He taught them what would benefit and reform them, never pushing them into complex debates that the Quran has firmly concluded: "...But no one knows its true hidden meaning except Allah. And those firmly grounded in knowledge say: 'We believe in it, all of it is from our Lord.'" (Surah Ali 'Imran: 7).
The ultimate test in matters of creed is complete submission and refraining from delving into the unknowable. Allah tests humanity's ability to repel their desires and intrusive thoughts by seeking refuge in Him. The Prophet ﷺ directed anyone plagued by such theological whispers to simply say: "I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan." The logical reason for this is clear: these matters are entirely beyond the capacity and scope of the human mind. The Absolute, Infinite Creator cannot be comprehended by the limited, finite human intellect. Unfortunately, this foundational rule has been forgotten. Whenever some people gather today, they open their mouths, loosen their tongues, and embolden the ignorant to debate the essence of Allah.
It is obvious to anyone with insight that the fierce war waged against the Islamic faith today has reached its peak. Emboldening the foolish and stirring up temptations and doubts around the Islamic creed is merely one facet of this overt and covert war aimed at destroying certainty within the hearts of Muslims.
Building Creed on Absolute Certainty, Not Blind Imitation
To heal these spiritual deformities, one must follow a scientific path rooted in facts, for the true creed is built on knowledge, not blind imitation. Most people today collapse in the face of the first doubt or whisper, allowing their souls to be swept away into sins. This happens because they suddenly realize that their religion is nothing more than rituals memorized in childhood, carried without any profound understanding of their meanings.
True believers do not build their faith on mere indoctrination. Rather, they establish it upon precise scientific principles and definitive rational proofs. They begin by reflecting upon existence, the Creator, the phenomena of existence, the realities of things, and the rational necessities that follow. They continue their search for evidence and proof, moving systematically toward establishing the absolute authenticity of Prophethood. Once they attain this and believe in it with absolute certainty, they settle upon an unshakable, definitive knowledge of their religion. This is how a Muslim achieves true steadfastness.
Every faculty in the human body has its own designated share of pleasure; the eye delights in beautiful scenery, and the ear enjoys a beautiful voice. As for the "heart," its ultimate joy and the very purpose for which it was created is holding the pure, divine creed. If the heart settles upon this faith and reaps its fruits, it has fulfilled its purpose and found true peace. If it feels restless, sensing loss, sorrow, and depression, know that the heart has been deprived of its rightful nourishment. The starting point of all goodness is the reformation of this heart.
The Reality of Steadfastness During Trials and the Unity of the Two Worlds
A believer is not deceived by outward appearances. A person might speak highly of themselves and believe they are a true believer, and people might praise their piety, inflating their ego. However, your private relationship with Allah during times of solitude and adversity is what truly exposes your reality. It is your heart that will tell you who you truly are when trials intensify, desires strike, calamities fall, and the world goes completely dark before your eyes. If you find Allah the Almighty in those moments and turn to Him, then you know you are a true Muslim.
This steadfastness in the worldly life is the very same steadfastness required in the Hereafter. This world and the Hereafter are not disconnected; they are one continuous reality. Just as you stand firm on your religion when facing worldly trials, you will stand firm on Monotheism (Tawheed) in the darkness of the grave. If you lack steadfastness here, do not expect it there. As Allah Almighty states: "Allah keeps those who believe firm with the steadfast word in worldly life and in the Hereafter..." (Surah Ibrahim: 27). It is called a "steadfast word" because it relies on an absolute certainty that never wavers or changes; it has taken firm root in the center of the soul and anchored itself in the deepest core of the heart.
The Contradictions of Outward Piety and Ideological Colonialism
One of the most lethal diseases afflicting Muslims today is the glaring contradiction between the claim of righteousness and the sinful reality of one's actions. A person might witness the divine signs (Ayat) of Allah, yet they do not increase his faith. He prays, but finds no spiritual impact from his prayer to deter him from the forbidden (Haram). He listens to the Quran, yet his skin does not shiver. The name of Allah is mentioned, and it is as if he never heard it. Such a person is in grave danger, suffering from an incurable spiritual disease, as Allah says: "In their hearts is a disease, so Allah has increased their disease..." (Surah Al-Baqarah: 10).
You find a man praying in the mosque, claiming piety by saying: "I am a righteous man," or "I will go to Hajj," or "I will perform Umrah soon." Yet, at the very same time, he takes his grown daughters and sons to beaches filled with free-mixing, nudity, obscenity, and immorality! Where is the impact of his prayer? Where is his protective jealousy? This type of person has completely forgotten Allah’s words: "Indeed, those who like that immorality should be spread [or publicized] among those who believe will have a painful punishment in this world and in the Hereafter." (Surah An-Nur: 19).
Immorality today does not spread by accident; it is systematically encouraged, paved for, protected, and expanded as part of a deliberate scheme of Ideological Colonialism. Today, everything that contradicts the religion of Allah—the religion of Islam—is heavily supported in order to subjugate the masses, dominate them, and drown them in worldly desires, making them easier to control. Therefore, every person must save themselves and their family from this swamp that erases the traits of the believers and hardens the hearts.
The Noble Quran has placed the ultimate standard right before your eyes; it describes the people of Paradise and the people of Hellfire. The picture is crystal clear for you to recognize which group you belong to. This is not mere intellectual luxury to be spoken of; it is a reality that demands action. Let every person seek to know their true standing with their Lord. The Book of Allah is the absolute scale of justice, and salvation belongs to the one who weighs their own heart and deeds before they are weighed against them.
